Quick Update

I'm not sure that all of the few people who read this blog were aware that Spencer had an umbilical hernia. Typically, an umbilical hernia isn't surgically repaired until the child is three since most of them resolve on their own. But Spencer had a complication called an incarceration that required us to get his hernia repaired now rather than in a couple of years.

The surgery was outpatient and went quite well. We were in and out of the hospital in under 4 hours. The nurses and doctors were wonderful. Spencer recovered very quickly from the anasthesia, which is partly why we came home so soon.

The day after the surgery was a bit rough since all the strong painkillers were out of his system and he still had the giant bandage on his abdomen getting in his way. The third day was much better and I think it will be smooth sailing from here. His belly button doesn't look like everyone else's yet and probably won't for several years, but no more bulge. Diapers don't really bother the incision, but tight pants still do.

I left out a lot of details since this is a public blog, so if you have questions, email me.

Thanks to everyone for their positive thoughts!
